Transremontstroy and Patstroy-92 renovate tram infrastructure along Knyaginya Maria Louisa Blvd
A significant renovation commenced to upgrade the tram lines along Knyaginya Maria Louisa Boulevard, stretching from Opalchenska Street to Kozloduy Street in Sofia. The project contractor is Transpat Infra 2022 Consortium, including two companies from GEOTECHMIN GROUP: Transremontstroy EAD and Patstroy-92 AD together with Infra Pro Consult Ltd.
The project will be implemented in five phases to minimize changes to the existing tram routes and reduce the impact on traffic. A complete reconstruction of the road lanes is planned for the section between Struga Street and Kozloduy Street. The project also includes the replacement of the tram tracks and cables along the entire section from Opalchenska Street to Kozloduy Street, as well as the renovation of the catenary line support systems, street lighting, and passenger platforms. Not a single tree will be cut down during the reconstruction, as the contractors are obliged to preserve the green areas along the tram lines. The value of the construction and renovation works exceeds EUR 8.5 million.
‘This is Sofia’s first tram line, which has been in operation since 1908. At that time, the trams had first- and second-class sections and ran along the route Knyaginya Maria Louisa Blvd – Alabin Street – Knyazhevo Street,’ explained Ivo Ivanov from the construction supervision team. The last major overhaul of the tram line was completed over four decades ago, in 1985.
‘This tram route will improve connectivity between Sofia’s northern boroughs and the city centre. It is one of the key projects we are launching this year. Other major projects include the Skobelev Boulevard reconstruction, which is also linked to the tram network, and the construction of Copenhagen Boulevard with a new tram line,’ said Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev. Representing Sofia Municipality, the event was also attended by Deputy Mayor for Public Construction Nikola Lyutov, Sofia City Council Chairman Tsvetomir Petrov, Serdika District Mayor Momchil Daskalov, and several municipal councilors.
On behalf of GEOTECHMIN GROUP, the event was attended by Mr Dominic Hamers, Executive Director of Geotechmin OOD; Mrs Yuliana Merzhanova, Executive Director of Transremontstroy EAD – the leader of the Consortium; and Mr Asparuh Lepichev, Executive Director of Patstroy-92 AD.
