Ellatzite-Med employees help restock rivers in Etropole Municipality by releasing 30,000 Balkan trout
For another consecutive year, employees of Ellatzite-Med, part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP, joined a river-restocking initiative organized by Etropole Municipality, the Sport Fishing Association and the Miners’ Club at Ellatzite-Med – Etropole.
The initiative aims to support the recovery and growth of the Balkan trout population and enhance biodiversity in the area. Under the supervision of the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture, a total of 30,000 juvenile Balkan trout were released into local rivers.
The Deputy Directors of Ellatzite-Med Mine Complex, M.Eng. Ivan Mishev and M.Eng. Vladimir Bilev, together with company employees, actively participated in the initiative. For yet another year, Ellatzite-Med supported the river-restocking campaign not only through the volunteer participation of its employees but also by providing transportation to deliver the fish to the stocking sites.
‘The Balkan trout is part of our region’s natural heritage and I strongly believe that everyone should do their part to preserve it. At Ellatzite-Med and GEOTECHMIN GROUP, we have always supported initiatives that create a positive and lasting impact. Today we helped restock the rivers and demonstrated that when institutions, businesses and young people work together, meaningful results can be achieved,’ said M.Eng. Ivan Mishev, Deputy Director of Ellatzite Mine Complex.
Mayor Vladimir Aleksandrov, who also took part in the initiative, thanked all participants and highlighted the importance of cooperation between institutions, businesses, organizations and local residents in protecting nature and preserving fish populations in the municipality.
A particularly valuable aspect of the initiative was the participation of students from Hristo Yasenov Secondary School, who not only took part in the fish stocking effort but also gained first-hand experience and a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility and the role each of us plays in preserving biodiversity.
During the event, the participants saw a significant number of fish in the rivers, a positive sign of the health of the aquatic ecosystem and the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to preserve the natural heritage of Etropole Balkan Mountain.
