In September 2007 ten companies took part in the prequalification stage to a tender for the construction of Sofia Metro II diameter, section “Nadezhda” overpass - “Cherni Vrah” Boulevard. Nine of these companies were foreign and the only Bulgarian construction company was Geotechmin OOD.
In October Geotechmin was admitted by the Prequalification Committee to the second stage of the tender. In the beginning of 2008 Geotechmin submitted a very competitive offer for the construction of the subsection from “Patriarch Evtimii” Boulevard to “Cherni Vrah” Boulevard. The tender, however, was cancelled due to lack of municipality funds.
On March 31, 2008 the tender for Sofia Metro II Diameter was reopened. Geotechmin OOD will again bid this high-priority project.
The project covers the construction of a 6.4 km-long metrosection with 7 metrostations and must be completed within 45 months from the day of signing of the contract. The construction of this metrosection is expected to finish until the beginning of 2011. The financing will mainly come from the European funds for operational program “Transport 2007-2011”.
After the construction of this metrosection Sofia citizens will be able to cover the distance form “Nadezhda” residential district to the National Palace of Culture for 6 minutes.
