The Balkan Academy of Mining Sciences admitted new members

Scientists and practitioners from the mining sector in Bulgaria were honoured to become members of the Balkan Academy of Mining Sciences. The formal admission took place at the 7th Balkan Mining Congress in Prijedor, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was organized by the Balkan Academy of Mining Sciences – a prestigious organization which brings together mining universities and applied research organizations from ten countries. Its Vice-Chairman is Prof. Dr. Tzolo Voutov, President of Geotechmin OOD and Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Union of Mining, Geology and Metallurgy in Bulgaria.
Among the official guests were Mr. Milenko Đaković – Mayor of Prijedor, MSc Esad Salčin – Assistant Minister for Mining and Geology оn behalf of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, and PhD Siniša Marčić – Assistant Minister of Science оn behalf of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska. At the official ceremony, the Chairman of the Balkan Academy of Mining Sciences Prof.Dr. Slobodan Vujić and the Vice-Chairman Prof.Dr. Tzolo Voutov announced the decision of the Academy’s Coordinating Council to admit new regular members in the organization. The new members are Dr.Eng. Iliya Garkov – Executive Director of Dundee Precious Metals Chelopech EAD and Dundee Precious Metals Krumovgrad EAD, Prof.Dr. Ventsislav Ivanov – University of Mining and Geology and Prof.Dr. Lyuben Totev – Rector of the University of Mining and Geology “St Ivan Rilski”. The Coordinating Council admits regular members on the basis of their citizenship in a Balkan country-member of the United Nations, conferred doctor’s degree and remarkable achievements in the development of mining science and engineering. M.Eng. Dragomir Draganov – Executive Director of Ellatzite-Med AD obtained the status of an associate academy member as a mining engineer who has made valuable contribution to the development of open-pit mining.
In addition to appraising the contribution of newly admitted members, the Balkan Academy of Mining Sciences provides a wide range of opportunities for sharing in-depth knowledge and experience among mining engineers and scientific teams from the Balkan countries. Through its conferences, it fosters the exchange of best practices and achievements in the exploration, mining and processing of ores and minerals.
