Project ЕР 003/1998

Employer: Union Miniere Pirdop Med AD

Project execution period: 1998 – 1999

Description of the project

In the past the Small Lagoons were used as a landfill for waste coming from the industrial water treatment plant of MDK–UMPC. The lagoons were partially cleaned from the slime in 1997. The draft design of Geotechmin OOD was based on the preliminary study performed by SEGES–Belgium as well as on additional hydrogeological investigations. It was approved in October 1998. The main aim of the project is to ensure the environmental work of the temporary waste water treatment plant for about 3 years so that there would be no danger of pollution with arsenic, heavy metals, etc.

Conducted works:

  • Cleaning of the remained arsenic slime – 6,000 cub.m.
  • Demolition and transportation of the old reinforced concrete constructions – 320 cub.m.
  • Excavation and filling works – 18,000 cub.m.
  • Performing of drain system, PVC-pipes with diameter 110-160 mm – 1,400 m
  • Waterproofing of the bottom and the slopes with HDPE liner – 2 mm thick – 17,200 sq.m.
  • Construction of a road at the surrounding walls, two unloading platforms and approach ramp to the bottom made by reinforced concrete covering
