Description of the project:

In 2004, after a tender procedure under the Bulgarian Law for the Public Procurement, Geotechmin OOD was nominated for designer and contractor for project Recultivation of Tailings Pond “Benkovski-I”. The designs were approved by the Interdepartmental Expert Committee to the MoEW.

The project is divided into two subprojects which include the following works:

Subproject 1: Finishing of the recultivation of the slope and beach area

• Recultivation of the downstream slope – 710 decares including:
  - Restoration of the erosive areas and old ditches and additional recultivation – 95.60 decares
  - Construction of berms, dewatering structures and collectors
  - Forming of the slope and recultivation of the crest – 40,500 cub.m.
• Recultivation of the beach – 962 decares

Subproject 2: Recultivation of the lake

• Dewatering of the lake – 402,000 cub.m.
• Drying, consolidation and restoration of the dewatered area – 795.7 decares
• Construction of the surface water lowering facility

For subprojects 1 and 2:

• Quarrying and transportation of earth materials – 500,000 cub.m.
• Biological recultivation – grassing, forestation, fertilizing, seeding, sprinkling, earthing up, mowing
